Cellar for up to 10 years. Decant for up to an hour before serving. This is a muscular Cabernet Franc, born and bred in the high-altitude vineyards of Tupungato and Lujan de Cuyo, in Mendoza, Argentina. It begins with a nose of ripe plum and black cherry, supplemented żeby hints of tobacco, peppery spices, and toasted oak. The Tupungato and Lujan de Cuyo vineyards can be found at 1100 and 900 metres above sea level, respectively, giving this wine exaggerated acidity and a larger than life character. Achaval Ferrer was founded in 1998 aby Santiago Achaval and Manuel Ferrer, who were joined by Italian winemaker Roberto Cipresso. Together with esteemed consultant Michel Rolland, the trio helped to cement Argentina’s place in the premium wine scene, as well as a place for Cabernet Franc, another Bordeaux grape that has yet to reach the dizzying heights of Malbec in Argentina. This Cabernet Franc opens up with a harmonious palate of black fruit – cassis, blackberry, and blackcurrant, supported by rustic notes of tomato leaf, dried rosemary and thyme, and black pepper. It balances elevated aromas and acidity with a broad, tannic side, similar to a Bordeaux Cabernet Franc. Perfect for those seeking the best of both worlds. Consider pairing it with a classic Argentinian steak, chorizo, or lamb.
