Cellar for up to 10 years. Decant for up to an hour before serving. Conceito’s Contraste red blend is a fun and fruity expression of the Douro Valley. It is made with grapes from 40-year-old vines growing in Quinta do Cabido and Quinta Chão do Pereiro. As an unpredictable field blend, containing mostly Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional grapes, it is intended to represent the wild, rustic side of Northern Portugal, while keeping a fresh and approachable character. Conceito Winery is led by the esteemed oenologist Rita Ferreira Marques, a Douro native who has also worked abroad in Bordeaux, California, South Africa and New Zealand. With help from winemaker Manuel Sapage and winegrower Nuno Fernandes, Rita creates an incredible selection of Portuguese wine, ranging from bright red wines to sparkling whites. This red Douro blend is powerful and dry in the mouth, combining a pleasant density with an elegant character. You can discover notes of blackberry and blueberry, echoing the bouquet. As it begins to open up, thyme and warming spices also appear, along with hints of earth. It is unique, approachable, and an excellent introduction to Northern Portugal. Consider pairing it with red meat, tomato sauce, or smoked fish.
